Shaapbas Esgerov, an athlete from Ashgabat, won a bronze medal in freestyle wrestling at the U17 Asian Championship held in Da Nang, Vietnam. The 11th-grade student at the Olymp Secondary School achieved this success in the 80 kg weight category.

This was the first international success for the young athlete, who trains under the guidance of Batyr Orazgylyjov, the 2010 Asian U17 freestyle wrestling silver medalist and the silver medalist of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (2017).
