Turkmen freestyle wrestlers won four medals—one gold and three bronze—at the Asian U23 Wrestling Championships held in Da Nang, Vietnam.
Nineteen-year-old International Master of Sports Alp Arslan Begenjov from Ashgabat claimed the title of Asian U23 Champion for the first time. The second-year student of the Turkmen State Institute of Finance achieved this remarkable success in the 86 kg weight category, where ten athletes competed for medals.
In addition, Turkmenistan’s team earned three bronze medals through the efforts of Dovletgeldy Myradov, Soltan Sanjar Begenjov, and Azatberdy Ashirgulyev.
Dovletgeldy Myradov competed in the 92 kg category and secured bronze by defeating Uzbekistan’s Sadirdin Daminjonov 3–0.
Soltan Sanjar Begenjov competed in the 79 kg category and won the bronze-medal match against Vietnam’s Van Tu Nguyen with a dominant 14–3 victory.
Azatberdy Ashirgulyev earned bronze in the 61 kg category after defeating the Philippines’ Hayden Ancheta 14–2.
Last year, at the Asian U23 Wrestling Championships in Vung Tau, Vietnam, Turkmen athletes won four medals as well—one silver and three bronze.
