World Bicycle Day to be widely celebrated in Turkmenistan

A series of sporting events will be organized in Turkmenistan on the occasion of World Bicycle Day, celebrated on June 3.

As Vice Premier B. Orazdurdyeva reported at the Cabinet of Ministers meeting, a mass bike ride is planned in the capital on June 3. Additionally, bike rides, sports competitions, scientific-practical conferences, awareness-raising and educational activities, and other events are scheduled in the velayats, as well as in the cities of Ashgabat and Arkadag from May 30 to June 3.

After hearing the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of thorough preparation for the solemn celebration of World Bicycle Day in the country. Highlighting the necessity of proper preparation and proper conduct of physical culture and sports events in the capital, the city of Arkadag, and the velayats, the head of state gave the Vice Premier a number of instructions on this matter.

Cycling, being an environmentally friendly sport, is gaining increasing popularity worldwide, especially in Turkmenistan, which makes a significant contribution to the development of mass health-improving movements.

It should be recalled that World Bicycle Day was established at the initiative of Turkmenistan in April 2018 during the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly. In 2022, at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly, a Resolution titled "Integration of mainstream bicycling into public transportation systems for sustainable development" was adopted by full consensus upon the proposal of our country.
