USEFUL MELON

As we know, a melon is one of Turkmen national melon’s crops. Every year on the second Sunday in August “Melon’s holiday” celebrates in Turkmenistan. A melon is any of various plants of the family Cucurbitaceae with sweet, edible and fleshly fruit. As in many fruits and vegetables and melon has a lot of useful to humans. In this article we want to tell you about melon.
 
NUTRITIONAL VALUE OF MELON.

From every 100 grams of melon there is:

  • More than 90 grams of water
  • 6 grams of carbohydrates
  • Nearly 1 gram of vegetable protein
  • 1 gram of fiber
  • 0 fat content

Melon contains vitamin C, niacin or B3,E, folic acid or B9,caroteens,piridixina or thiamine or B1 and B6. 

VITAMINS

It has a good amount of vitamin A, B, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, vitamin C, E minerals and beta-carotene.

FOR HEART HEALTH.

The melon controls heart rate and blood pressure because of its potassium content, which prevents heart-related diseases.

PREVENT DISEASES

Melon helps the body resist diseases caused by infections, viruses and bacteria,by having vitamin C and manganese.

HELPS TO LOSE WEIGHT.

Sometimes weight loss is not only an aesthetic motivation, as some weight-related disorders such as obesity cause serious health problems. Therefore, foods such as melon, with high water content (up to 90%) are ideal to be part of weight loss diet. Melons: are low in calories, fat and cholesterol.

HEALTHY TEETH AND BONES.

Another compound abundant in melon is calcium, because for every 100grams of this food, it is possible to find 15mg of this mineral. Calcium is vitally important to bones and teeth, and melon actively contributes to the formation of bones and teeth and keeps them strong and healthy.

Despite being a very rich and healthy food it must be taken into account that melons can be indigestible when consumed green or immature, there are some cases in which this fruit is totally contraindicated:

Melons in Turkmenistan are considered part of the great heritage, a national treasure, a symbol of talent and hard work of local farmers that worthily continue the traditions of their ancestors.

Melon production in Turkmenistan is based mainly on old aboriginal varieties improved through selection.  Of high demand are such old local melon varieties as Ak Gulyabi , Ameri , Vakharman  Gok Gulyabi , Sary Gulyabi , Zaami , Garry Gyz , Gyzyl Gulyabi.

Based on the research carried out by Turkmen scientists, there are now known over 420 varieties and biotypes of Turkmen melons that have existed over the last 14 centuries. Turkmenistan cultivates more than 200 locally selected varieties of melon. Most of them have been restored in the years of independence by the joint efforts of scientists and breeders.
