The 2026 Asian Games have officially begun in Japan, with Turkmen athletes among the participants. The continental sporting event is being held in Nagoya and Aichi Prefecture and will continue through October 4. Representatives of 45 countries and regions, as well as the Refugee Team, are taking part in this year’s Games. Athletes will compete for medals in 43 sports, making the Asian Games 2026 one of the major events on the continent’s sporting calendar.
The main venue for the opening celebration was the renovated Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium. Japan is hosting the Asian Games for the third time. The country previously hosted the continental sporting forum in Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994. The current edition is the 20th Asian Games in the history of the event.
The Turkmenistan national team is represented in eight sports: wrestling, kurash, weightlifting, boxing, wushu, karate-do, swimming and athletics. The participation of Turkmen athletes in these competitions will become another important chapter in the history of the country’s sport.
Every appearance at the Asian Games is an opportunity to compete for the honour of the national team, demonstrate a high level of skill and proudly represent one’s country. Turkmen athletes have entered the sporting arenas of Japan with a firm determination to achieve their best results.
