Turkmenistan Wins Team Event in Combat Sambo at World Youth Championships

The Turkmenistan national team finished first in the team standings in junior combat sambo at the World Youth Championships in Thessaloniki, Greece. Turkmen athletes won six medals: three gold, two silver and one bronze.

The Russian national team finished second in this discipline with five medals — two gold, two silver and one bronze. Georgia took third place with one gold and two bronze medals. They were followed by Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Armenia and Uzbekistan.

According to the International Sambo Federation, Russian athletes topped the team standings in all disciplines except junior combat sambo. In this discipline, the Turkmenistan national team emerged as the strongest.

The World Youth Championships were held on October 2–4 at the PAOK Sports Arena. The tournament set a participation record, with 713 sambo athletes from 40 countries taking to the mats — the highest number in the history of the competition. A total of 55 sets of medals were contested, with athletes from 25 countries winning medals.
