The qualifying tournaments of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo are taking place these days. The Turkmenistan weightlifting team took part in one of these tournaments, which was held in the Turkish city of Gaziantep on November 15-17. Three athletes from the national team showed good results and stood on the podium.

A member of our team Kristina Shermetova performed in the 55 kg weight category. She lifted 87 kg in the snatch event and took the first place and a gold medal. She lifted 113 kg in the clean and jerk event and took the first place. Our athletes lifted 190 kg in the two events and won a gold medal.

Our weightlifter Seyitjan Mirzaev, a coach from sport school 3 of the Lebap Velayat Main Department of Sport and Youth Policy in Danev etrap, performed in the 61 kg weight category. He made several successful attempts. He lifted 122 kg in the snatch event and took the first place and a gold medal. He lifted 143 kg in the clean and jerk event and took the second place and a silver medal.

Another representative of our team, a student from Turkmen Institute of Physical Culture and Sports Gulnabat Kadyrova performed in the 76 kg weight category and won medals. Gulnabat lifted 98 kg in the snatch event and took the first place and a gold medal. She lifted 120 kg in the clean and jerk event. This brought her the second place and a silver medal.

100 athletes from 24 countries performed at the international weightlifting tournament, which was held in memory of the three-time Olympic champion Naim Suleimanoglu. The Olympic qualifying tournaments continue.
