On April 2, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia Husain Al-Musallam and First Vice President of the Association of National Olympic Committees, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, the TDH reports.
Having expressed sincere gratitude to the head of state for the time devoted to the meeting, the guests highly appreciated the large-scale work carried out in Turkmenistan to develop physical culture and sports, and train international athletes.
Having warmly welcomed the heads of international sports organizations, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that their visit would provide an opportunity to discuss important areas of cooperation between our country, the Olympic Council of Asia and the Qatar Olympic Committee.
As was noted during the meeting, Turkmenistan attaches particular importance to the development of physical culture and sports. In our country, targeted work is being carried out to popularize a healthy lifestyle, attract young people to physical education and sports. Important decisions on the development of sports are made at the state level, and measures are being implemented to expand international cooperation in this area.
The guests emphasized that Turkmenistan is an active participant in the Olympic movement. A striking example of this is the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games successfully held in Ashgabat in 2017, which contributed to the development of Turkmen sports, as well as the strengthening of sports cooperation on the Asian continent.
At the same time, Turkmenistan pays special attention to partnership with international sports organizations. Modernization of specialized infrastructure, creation of favorable conditions for athletes, holding international competitions are priority areas of our country's sports policy. Today's meeting is an important step towards taking cooperation in this area to a new level, supporting the Olympic movement.
Noting that the activities of the Olympic Council of Asia and the Association of National Olympic Committees contribute to the development of sports and the popularization of Olympic values all over the world, the head of state expressed confidence that the visit of the heads of these organizations to Turkmenistan will contribute to further intensification of cooperation in the sports sphere, the implementation of joint projects and the promotion of new initiatives.
At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed his sincere gratitude to Husain Al-Musallam and Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani or their great personal contribution to expanding cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Olympic Council of Asia, for their constant support of our country's initiatives in this direction and wished them success in their work to develop the Olympic movement on the Asian continent.
