Today President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), President of the World Aquatics Husain Al-Musallam, TDH reports.
Expressing his sincere gratitude to the head of state for taking the time to meet, the guest noted that the Olympic Council of Asia highly values Turkmenistan's efforts in developing sports. Husain Al-Musallam also expressed appreciation to the President for his support in promoting the Olympic movement and preparing athletes for international competitions.
Welcoming the Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that his current visit would provide a new impetus to the further development of Turkmenistan’s cooperation with the OCA.
As noted during the meeting, the development of physical culture and sports, as well as broad international cooperation in this field, are among the priorities of the state policy of Turkmenistan.
Adhering to the high humanitarian principles of the Olympic movement, Turkmenistan advocates for the expansion of regional and international partnerships in sports and takes concrete steps to achieve these goals.
In this regard Turkmenistan collaborates with the International Olympic Committee, the Olympic Council of Asia, specialized sports federations and other reputable international organizations, which clearly demonstrates the country’s strong commitment to sports diplomacy.
Examples of such cooperation include the successful hosting of the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, the international rally Amul-Hazar 2018 along the ancient Silk Road and the World Weightlifting Championship.
Furthermore, the importance of the United Nations General Assembly’s 2018 resolution, initiated by Turkmenistan, to declare June 3 as World Bicycle Day was highlighted.
It was also noted that through the regular hosting of international competitions in Turkmenistan, the cultural and spiritual values of the Turkmen people, their unique national traditions and customs, economic achievements and advancements in science, education and the arts are widely promoted globally.
The parties also discussed the development of aquatic sports in Turkmenistan, which are popular worldwide and contribute to fostering physically strong and healthy youth.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude to the Director General of the OCA, President of the World Aquatics Husain Al-Musallam for his significant personal contribution to the development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Olympic Council of Asia, as well as for his continuous support of the country’s initiatives in this area. He also wished the guest good health and success in his work.
