Turkmen athlete Shahzаdbek Matyakubov won a gold medal in the weight category up to 102 kg at the 2024 World Junior Weightlifting Championships in León, Spain. He also set a world record in the clean and jerk (216 kg).

In the snatch our compatriot lifted 175 kg, in the 1 kg clean and jerk he broke the previous world record and with a result of 391 kg in the total of the two-man event became the world champion. Brazilian Matheus Pessanha (383 kg) and Egyptian Mahmoud Hassan (369 kg) took second and third places respectively

Another Turkmen weightlifter, Anamjan Rustamova, won a small bronze medal in the snatch with a result of 103 kg at this World Junior Championships in the weight category up to 81 kg.
