Today, at the Olympic Games in Paris, weightlifters competed for medals in the 102 kg weight category, in which Turkmenistan was represented by 23-year-old Master of Sports Davranbek Hasanbayev. It was the first time for him to compete in the main competitions of the four-year period.
He won the right to participate in the 2024 Olympics at the 2024 World Cup held in Phuket (Thailand) in April this year, where he took the 5th place with his personal best of 392 kg in the total (the snatch – 187 kg and the clean and jerk – 205 kg).
On the Olympic podium in Paris, Davranbek Hasanbayev lifted 180 kg in the snatch and 190 kg in the clean and jerk event and took the overall 10th place with a result of 370 kg.
The Olympic champion in this weight category was the 22-year-old world record holder in the clean and jerk and in both events, the 2023 world champion and the 2023 Asian champion Liu Huanhua (China) – 406 kg (186 + 220). The silver medalist was Akbar Djuraev from Uzbekistan – 404 kg (185 + 219), and the bronze medalist was Belarusian weightlifter Yauheni Tsikhantsou, who competed under a neutral flag – 402 kg (183 + 219).
