The first performances of the Turkmen Olympians

Turkmen athletes have started the Olympic Games in Paris. On July 28 Turkmen judoka Serdar Rahimov met with the bronze medalist of the 2024 African Championship Edmilson Pedro from Angola in the first bout of the weight category 66 kg.

Edmilson Pedro won one Waza-ari at the beginning of the meeting. However, in the future he did not show any activity to keep the victory. On the contrary the Turkmen wrestler was very active on the tatami showing great will to win. During the further struggle the Angolan athlete received three remarks and had to end his performance at the Olympic Games.

In the 1/8 finals Serdar Rahimov met with Brazilian Willian Lima. This fight for reaching the quarterfinals was distinguished by a stubborn struggle, where the Brazilian athlete did not allow the Turkmen judoka to carry out any attacks. As a result, the judge on the tatami made three Shido to the Turkmen and the fight ended in favor of the Brazilian athlete.

Willian Lima won the bronze medal at the Tashkent Grand Slam 2024 and Tbilisi Grand Slam 2024 tournaments, and Serdar Rakhimov won the gold medal at the Dushanbe Grand Slam 2024.
