On February 26, the First League of the Chess Championship of Turkmenistan concluded at the sports school 4 in Dashoguz. The Swiss-system tournament consisted of 11 rounds. 56 chess players took part in the competition. Allayar Shirliyev, a representative of the State Border Service of Turkmenistan (FIDE/Elo rating – 2111) won the tournament, which is considered one of the most prestigious competitions in the country. He scored 9 points out of 11.
Shahruh Turayev (rating – 2183), a coach of the women's national team of Turkmenistan (Dashoguz) had the same number of points as Allayar and took the second place. He was inferior to the winner only in additional indicators.
Azym Saryev, a schoolchild from Ashgabat, scored only one point less than the leaders and entered the top three. He improved his Elo rating by 80 points to 1900.
The 17-year-old Bagul Ezizova (Mary Velayat) won in the women's event of the First League. Coached by Serdar Annaberdiyev, she scored 9 points out of 11. This victory was not the first success of the young chess player, a candidate master of FIDE, at the national tournaments. She triumphed at the U6, 8 & 10 Championships of Turkmenistan and several international events.
