The State Committee on Physical Culture and Sports of Turkmenistan and the relevant agencies of the United Nations organized the mass sports events on the World Health Day. While young participants competed in the athletics and sitting volleyball events, the elders took part in the mass therapeutic physical culture events.
Representatives of the State Committee on Physical Culture and Sports of Turkmenistan, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Ashgabat public organization for the social services to the elders and disabled people attended the mass sports event. Students from the high and secondary schools of the country also took part in the event.
A mass sprint for boys and girls marked the opening stage of the event. The tournament for students and schoolchildren was organized in different distances for male and female participants. These events revealed the fastest sprinters.
A sitting volleyball match was held between the teams of Ashgabat and Ahal Velayat of the Central Physical Culture and Sports Club of Turkmenistan. Moreover, physical therapy exercises were organized for the elders.
The winners of the competitions were awarded the gifts and letters of honour from the State Committee on Physical Culture and Sports of Turkmenistan and the United Nations Office in Turkmenistan.
