16 medals (5 gold, 3 silver and 8 bronze) were won by Turkmen athletes at the 17th international karatedo tournament Banzai Cup-2022, which ended in Berlin (Germany).
The competition brought together 1211 athletes from 31 countries, who competed for 89 sets of awards in the disciplines of kata (exercises demonstration - fight with an invisible opponent) and kumite (combat sparring) within two days.
The highest awards in the discipline of kata were won by a 5th grade student of the 1st specialized secondary school with in-depth study of foreign languages Ovezmyrat Sapadurdyev (among teenagers under 12 years old) and a 8th grade student of Ashgabat secondary school No. 50 Allanur Yalkabov (among cadets under 14 years old).
Three other gold medals were awarded to our compatriots in combat sparring. In the team kumite among juniors under 18, this success was achieved by a student of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Yusup Garajaev, a student of the 10th grade of the 27th secondary school of the Ak Bugday etrap of the Akhal velayat Makhtumkuli Annayev and a student of the 11th grade of the 20th secondary school of Balkanabat Khemra Begdzhanov. And in the personal - a student of the 11th grade of the 52nd secondary school of Ashgabat Rasul Atajanov (up to 55 kg among juniors under 18 years old) and a 2nd year student of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Davut Nazmyradov (up to 75 kg among men).
In addition, Davut Nazmyradov won two more silver medals. He won them in sparring in the weight category up to 75 kg among athletes under 21 and in the absolute weight category (Open). The third silver in the piggy bank of our team was brought in team kumite among cadets under 16 years old by a student of the 10th grade of the 44th secondary school of Ashgabat Sylapberdi Orazgeldiyev, a student of the 9th grade of the 55th secondary school of Ashgabat Erkin Taganov and a student of the 10th grade of the 5th secondary schools of Ak Bugday etrap, Akhal velayat Dovletmyrat Ashirmukhammedov.
It is noteworthy that in the same type of program, our other team achieved bronze success, consisting of a student of the 9th grade of the 52nd secondary school of Ashgabat Jora Ovezmyradov, a 9th grader of the 55th secondary school of Ashgabat Davut Sariyev and a student of the 10th grade of the 7th secondary school of Gyorogly etrap, Dashoguz velayat Shamyrat Myradov.
In another team kumite - among men - students of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports Arzuv Seyitgulyev, Suleyman Garlyev and Tachmuhammet Bekiev won bronze medals. And in personal sparring - Erkin Taganov (up to 52 kg among cadets under 16), a student of the 11th grade of the 45th secondary school of Ashgabat Rustam Pukhanov (up to 61 kg among juniors under 18), a 3rd year student of the Turkmen State Architectural and Construction Bayry Bairyev Institute (up to 75 kg among men), 2nd year student of a sports university Suleiman Garlyev and 1st year student of the Turkmen State Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering Muhammetnur Annamukhamedov. The last two competed in the same weight category up to 60 kg.
In the discipline of kata among cadets under 14 years old, a student of the 8th grade of the 8th secondary school of the Geoktepe etrap of the Akhal velayat Perhat Atamyradov rose to the third step of the podium.
In the team standings, Turkmen karatekas took third place, leaving behind the German club LV Nordrhein Westfalen (6 gold, 8 silver and 8 bronze medals) and the national team of Slovakia (8 gold, 6 silver and 9 bronze medals).
In the nearest plans of our karatekas is participation in the 12th Shotokan Karate World Championship, which will be held from 9 to 11 September in Pardubice (Czech Republic).
