20.03.2020. The UNESCO General Director Audrey Azoulay has sent official mail with original of the certificate on inclusion of Turkmen national carpet making art to the Representative List of Intangible Human Heritage to the Government of Turkmenistan.
It has been already informed to TDH that this decision has been made at the session of the 14th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for Protection of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, which was held in Bogota, the capital of Columbia in December 9 – 14, 2019.
On the day before Nowruz Bayramy, the certificate proving historical importance and value of traditions of Turkmen carpet making art as part on human cultural heritage has been delivered to Ashgabat.
Turkmenistan and the UN, in particular the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), are connected with old and fruitful partnership. The results of this partnership include entering of historical and cultural reserves of Ancient Merv, Kunyaurgenc and Ancient Nisa to the World Heritage List, Gyorogly destan, ritual dance Kushtdepdy to the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Human Heritage.
The Head of the State declared deep study of spiritual and cultural heritage of Turkmen nation, careful protection and enrichment of ancient traditions among the priorities of the state policy.
Our country pays special attention to development of carpet making art, scientific studies in the sphere of its history, popularization of Turkmen carpets. Equipment and facility base of the carpet making industry is strengthened, new carpet making facilities are put into operation, conditions for efficient work and proper recreation of carpet makers has been established and permanently improved.
