The Qatar Weightlifting International Cup started in Doha. three athletes represent the Turkmenistan team at the sporting event, which is an Olympic qualifying tournament.

According to the Ministry of Sport and Youth Policy of Turkmenistan,  a coach at sports school  3 from Dyanev town, Lepab velayat won a  silver medal in the under 61 kg weight category. The Turkmen athlete lifted 270 kg (125 kg in the snatch event and 145 kg in the clean and jerk event) and stood on the second step of the podium. Igor Son from Kazakhstan took the first place; he lifted 278 (124 + 154) kg in the two events. Davide Rui from Italy (270 kg) ranked among the top three athletes.

A fourth-year student at Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports Yulduz Jumabaeva (under 48 kg) ranked second in the clean and jerk event (97 kg), and she lifted 166 kg in the two events and won a ‘bronze’ in the tournament.

The tournament will finish on December 24.
