In accordance with the order of the President of Turkmenistan, the Turkmenistan delegation headed by Minister of Sport and Youth Policy of Turkmenistan D. Gulgeldyev is currently on a working visit to Doha, Qatar. The envoys of our Motherland are taking part in the XXIV General Assembly of National Olympic Committees, which will be held from 15 to 19 October.
The General Assembly programme includes the reports of a number of committees on specific aspects (financing, athletes, marketing, legal issues, education and medicine) as well as the presentations on the progress of the preparatory work of the Organizing Committees for the upcoming Summer and Winter Olympic Games.
This is not the first visit of Turkmen specialists to this Middle East country. On September 16, 2019, our delegation visited the Aspire Sports Academy and Aspetar Hospital in Doha. The representatives of our country learned about the structure and working methods of these sports units and held a meeting with Head of the Aspetar Hospital Mr. Khalid Ali Al Mawlawi. During the meeting, the parties agreed develop a bilateral international project aimed at enhancing cooperation in sports sciences and medicine as well as promoting joint activities of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy of Turkmenistan and the Aspetar Hospital in training athletes and providing medical care to athletes in accordance with the Memorandum of Cooperation signed by the National Olympic Committees in March 2016. Also, the parties agreed to exchange experiences, train qualified specialists and promote joint research activities at the Faculty of Olympic Sports at Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, which is currently under construction in Ashgabat.
Recently, the highly esteemed President of Turkmenistan, who is striving to raise the prestige of Turkmen sport, bring it up to the international level and use scientific advances in the sports sector, has given specific instructions to Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy on the creation of modern sports academies in Turkmenistan.
Doha, Qatar hosted the I World Beach Games from 12 to 16 October. The participants in the General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees were the guests of honour at the Games and the Games closing ceremony.
The Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) is an international sports organisation. It was established in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1979. It serves to coordinate activities, provide assistance and support, promote sports cooperation
of the Member States of the International Olympic Committee – the National Olympic Committees.
