The capital of Kyrgyzstan hosted the grand opening ceremony of the VI World Nomad Games, a major international forum that brings together sport, culture and the traditions of the peoples of Eurasia. A representative delegation from Turkmenistan is also taking part in the Games.
The opening ceremony was held on August 31 at the new Bishkek Arena stadium. Delegations from participating countries took part in the athletes’ parade. According to the organizers, this year’s Games have brought together more than 3,000 athletes from 104 countries. Following the opening ceremony in Bishkek, the main sporting and cultural events will take place in the Issyk-Kul Region.
The programme of the Games includes more than 40 national sports and traditional games. These include equestrian competitions, national wrestling disciplines, archery, intellectual games and other events reflecting the historical heritage of nomadic peoples.
A special place in the programme is given to Turkmen national wrestling. Experts note that the inclusion of this traditional discipline in the Games programme demonstrates its rightful place among national sports and highlights the rich wrestling heritage of Turkmenistan.
