Turkmen weightlifter Shabnam Kerimbaeva won a silver medal at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in the up to 53 kg weight category among girls (under 17). The athlete lifted a total of 186 kg across the two events. In addition, Kerimbaeva also competed in the older age category — among juniors (under 20), where she finished third with the same total of 186 kg.

Turkmen weightlifter Atabek Azamatov won a silver medal in the up to 60 kg weight category among boys. In the snatch, he lifted 113 kg, finishing second and earning a minor silver medal. His result in the clean and jerk was 132 kg, which placed him fifth in the event.

In the individual events, Shabnam Kerimbaeva recorded 83 kg in the snatch and 103 kg in the clean and jerk. These results earned her a minor silver medal in the snatch and a minor gold medal in the clean and jerk in the Youth category. In the Junior category, the athlete won minor silver medals in both events.

The Asian Weightlifting Championships for youth and juniors are being held in Tashkent, with more than 300 athletes from 29 countries across the region taking part. The competition will continue through August 14.

According to the rules of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), athletes are allowed to compete simultaneously in two age categories — Youth (under 17) and Junior (under 20).
