Turkmen chess players won four medals at international competitions in Astana.

The first Turkic States Team Championship for men and women and the Turkic States Youth Chess Olympiad for players under 16 were held in the capital of Kazakhstan, using a round-robin format. Players from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan participated in the competition.

In the men's tournament, which featured 13 grandmasters and 18 international masters, the leader of the Turkmenistan team, Grandmaster Saparmurat Atabayev, demonstrated a high level of play on board one and earned a bronze medal.

In the women's tournament, Jahan Rejepova won the silver medal on board three, and Lala Shohradova, who played on board one, won the bronze medal.

Young chess player Dilber Hupbyyeva earned another bronze medal for the Turkmenistan team, successfully finishing fourth on board at the Youth Olympiad of Turkic States (U16).
