Turkmenistan defeated Brunei at the Davis Cup in Bahrain

Turkmen tennis players started with a 3:0 victory over Brunei in the Davis Cup zonal tournament, which is taking place in Isa Town, Bahrain, The Golden age electronic newspaper reports.

In Group V of the Asia/Oceania Zone, where our compatriots compete, 14 teams, divided into four groups, are fighting for promotion.

Turkmenistan was drawn into Group C along with the teams of Bahrain, Bangladesh and Brunei.

The other groups consist of: A – Laos, Yemen, Northern Mariana Islands; B – Guam, Myanmar, Mongolia; D – United Arab Emirates, Macau, Maldives, Tajikistan.

The group winners will advance to the playoffs, the two winners of which will have the right to play in Group IV of the Asia/Oceania Zone next year.

The Turkmenistan Davis Cup team is represented by Yuriy Rogusskiy, Meylis Orazmuhammedov, Selim Chagylov, Ali Geldiyev, and Allanur Dayanjov. Team captain is Mirali Gasanov. Coach is Gurbanberdi Gurbanberdiyev. The head of the delegation is Eziz Dovletov, Chairman of the Tennis Federation of Turkmenistan.

In their opening match, Turkmenistan faced Brunei, whose best Davis Cup result came in 1994, finishing 9th in Group III of the Asia/Oceania Zone. The two teams had previously met in Group IV of the Asia-Oceania Zone back in 2004, when Brunei won a close battle 2-1.

This time, the Turkmen team had no major problems against this team. In the first singles match, which lasted 54 minutes, Selim Chagylov easily defeated Gavin Yeung Kok Lim – 6-0, 6-0. And in the second, which lasted 1 hour and 55 minutes, Allanur Dayanjov defeated Aiman Abdullah in three sets – 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-1. In the third match, Meylis Orazmuhammedov and Yuriy Rogusskiy crushed the duo of Gavin Yeung Kok Lim and Ak Ahmad Dasuqi PG Haji Sulaiman in 38 minutes – 6-0, 6-0.

The next opponent of Turkmen tennis players will be the Bangladesh team, which lost to the Bahrain team – 0:3.
