Turkmenistan saw off a determined challenge to beat Chinese Taipei 3-1 in their AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ Qualifiers Final Round Group D tie to ensure they stayed very much in the hunt.
The match took place today at the fully packed 10,000-seat stadium in the city of Arkadag, which hosted the Turkmenistan national team for the second time.
Rahman Myratberdiyev (13th minute), Elman Tagayev (53) and Meylis Diniyev (78) scored for the winning team. Ange Samuel Kouame (45+2) scored for the visiting team.
In another group match, Thailand won visiting Sri Lanka 4-0.
Turkmenistan, with 12 points, is first in group D, ahead of Thailand on tiebreakers. Sri Lanka is third with 6 points, followed by Chinese Taipei, who have no points.
The AFC Asian Cup 2027 berth will be determined in a match between Turkmenistan and Thailand, which will take place in Bangkok on March 31, 2026.
