In recent years, taekwondo has become increasingly popular in our country. This was fully confirmed by the tournament of the National Taekwondo Center (WT) of Turkmenistan among athletes aged 7 to 18 for the Cup of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Turkmenistan, which was held in the Martial Arts Sports Complex of the Olympic City of Ashgabat.

These competitions, which have become a good tradition, have been held in our country since 2010. This time, more than 100 athletes from the capital, the city of Arkadag, Mary, Lebap and Dashoguz regions took part in them. Girls and boys competed separately in different weight categories. As a result, athletes from Ashgabat won 8 gold, 11 silver and 7 bronze medals, athletes from Arkadag – 1 gold and 4 bronze medals, athletes from Lebap region – 2 silver and 5 bronze medals, taekwondo athletes from Mary region – 20 gold, 14 silver and 26 bronze medals, athletes from Dashoguz region – 1 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals. In the overall team standings, athletes from Mary region won 60 medals and the Cup.

Sport is a reliable means of ensuring peace, friendship, brotherhood and trust throughout the world. These competitions also played a significant role in further strengthening Turkmen Korean friendship and cooperation.
