1,500 athletes from 15 countries took part in the Fudokan Karate World Cup, held in Ivanovo, the Russian Federation.
The national team of Turkmenistan led by Diyar Hojayev won 13 medals, including 2 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals, at the tournament.
Arslan Hudayberdiyev won a silver medal in the 45-kilogramme weight class sports karate event for 10-11-year-old athletes. Meylis Charyev earned a silver medal in the kihon karate (basic technique) event and a bronze medal in the 40-kilogramme weight class sports karate event for 12-13-year-old athletes. Ybrayym Shagulyev won bronze medals in the 70-kilogramme weight class sports karate event and in the kudo karate event for 14-15-year-old athletes. Nurgeldi Annagurbanov earned a silver medal in the kata karate (demonstration performance) event for 18-20-year-old athletes.
Selim Myratdurdyev won a gold medal in the kumite (sparring) event and a bronze medal in the 75-kilogramme weight class sports karate event for 21-34-year-old athletes. Durdymyrat Meredov (silver medals in the kata (demonstration performance) and kumite events) and Eziz Zekeryayev (a bronze medal in the kumite event) succeeded in the same age category. Kemal Atayev won a gold medal in the kumite event, and Dovlet Berdiyev earned a bronze medal in the kata event for 35-49-year-old athletes.
