On February 22-25, the Turkmenistan team, consisting of 25 athletes, performed at the international tournament Karate 1-Youth League in Fujairah, UAE.

A 9th grader at school 16 Gurbannazar Amandurdyev from Ak bugday etrap, Ahal velayat won the first fight with the Kazakh athlete and lost the second fight to the athlete from the United States in the under 52 kg weight category in the modern karate (kumite) section. He defeated the karate fighters from India, Jordan, Egypt, and Kazakhstan and won a bronze medal.

About 2,000 athletes from 80 countries participated in the tournament.
