Representatives of Turkmenistan arrived at Kazan International Airport to participate in the first ever multi-sport tournament «Games of the Future». Their opening ceremony will take place on the 21st of February in the capital of Tatarstan, Russian Federation.
«Games of the Future» is a large-scale sporting event at the intersection of sports, science and technology, based on the «phygital» concept. This term consists of two words – physical (physical) and digital (digital), meaning the combination of the real and the virtual. In the context of sports, this is a double event, where the same team competes first in a real sport and then in an eSports game similar to that sport.
It is expected that over 270 teams from more than 100 countries will take part in the «Games of the Future», and the total prize fund of the competition will be $10 million. All prize money will be divided between 21 disciplines, which are divided into five categories: sports, tactics, strategy, technology and speed.
Our team is made up of 15 athletes (14 students and 1 teacher) representing the University of Engineering and Technology named after Oguz han of Turkmenistan. She will perform in physical football and physical basketball matches.
As the press service of the «Games of the Future» reported, the Turkmen delegation was warmly greeted by volunteers at the Kazan airport. They helped the participants with accreditation and guided them to the buses that will take the athletes to the competition venues.
The «Games of the Future» will take place at nine different venues. The main venue of the tournament will be the Kazan Expo exhibition complex, where the opening and closing ceremonies will take place, as well as competitions in phygital football, phygital basketball, phygital skateboarding, Dota 2 + super final, MLBB + super final, dance simulator and virtual reality game. By the way, at the closing ceremony the country that will host the second «Games of the Future» will be named. The main contender for hosting them is China.
The mascot of the first «Games of the Future» was the Firebird MIRA, which was invented by students from Tatarstan. It is noted that the name of the mascot symbolizes peace and the unification of the peoples taking part in the tournament. The modern Firebird will become a symbol of the unification of traditions and innovations, openness to new experiences and technologies, and a guide to the future of sports.
«Games of the Future» will last until 3rd of March. But we can already say that the first such tournament organized in the capital of Tatarstan will evoke a response from millions of people and will clearly demonstrate the limitless possibilities of uniting representatives of different nationalities through modern digital technologies, as well as give a new impetus to the development of the digital movement in Turkmenistan.
