Representatives of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Turkmenistan, public organizations of the country, coaches and specialists of the sports schools under the State Committee on Physical Culture and Sports of Turkmenistan took part in a seminar, which was held on February 20–24. The main goal of the seminar was to promote the principles of gender equality, a healthy lifestyle, emotional freedom, reproductive health and legal awareness of volunteers.
Within the framework of the relevant programme, the seminars on the role of volunteers in promoting the principles of a healthy lifestyle are held for the coaches of the sports schools and young people in our country on a regular basis. On the first day of the seminar, the representatives of the State Committee on Physical Culture and Sports of Turkmenistan, the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan emphasized in their speeches the importance of gender equality, a healthy lifestyle, and the men's participation in volunteer movement.
During the four-day seminar, the participants discussed in detail the characteristics and quality of volunteers, the need and methods of conducting the trainings on promoting the principles of a healthy lifestyle and gender equality among people. They made special presentations about the work of volunteer groups consisting of the coaches of the sports schools to promote gender equality through the principles of a healthy lifestyle. Developing youth leadership and revealing leaders in sports were the main focus of the seminar in the first days.
Question-and-answer discussions included the issues related to the development of the volunteer movement and increased the effectiveness of the seminar. Special certificates were awarded to the participants and volunteers after the seminar. They expressed sincere gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who contributes to the work with the UN agencies on increasing public awareness in our country.
