14 medals - 2 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze - were won by representatives of Turkmenistan at the 26th Open European Fudokan Karate Championship, which ended in Rimini, Italy. About 1000 karatekas from 30 countries of the world took part in the competition. The Turkmen team was represented by 10 athletes and 2 coaches.
Ikhlas Annagurbanov in the group of 11-13 years won a gold medal in individual kata, and in the weight category 45 kg sparring (kumite) - silver. Nurgeldi Annagurbanov became the second in the individual kata among athletes aged 16-17.
Young athlete of the National Federation of Traditional Karate of Turkmenistan Yagmyrat Sakhetmyradov took 3rd place in personal kumite among athletes in the weight category up to 65 kg aged 16-17 years. Durdymyrat Meredov won two bronze medals: one in kumite among athletes weighing up to 65 kg in the age category of 18-20 years, and the second among karatekas of all ages.
Among athletes aged 18-20, Arslan Ataev (up to 65 kg) took 2nd place in sparring, and Selim Myratdurdyev (up to 70 kg) in the same type of program became the second among 21-year-old athletes.
Kemal Ataev won a bronze medal in kumite among athletes aged 21-35, and his namesake Ataev took 3rd place in the category over 80 kg among karatekas aged 18-20.
Durdymyrat Meredov climbed to the third step of the podium in the individual kumite in the age group of 18-20 years, and Rovshen Khudaiberenov became the bronze medalist in the individual kata in the age group of 21-35 years.
In the team kumite, Arslan Ataev, Selim Myratdurdyev, Durdymyrat Meredov and Rovshen Khudaiberenov won gold among athletes aged 19-21, and Kemal Ataev, Arslan Ataev, Eimur Mademinov and Rovshen Khudaiberenov won silver among karatekas of the 21-35 age group
