The 2022 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships was held in Tashkent, the Republic of Uzbekistan. Over 260 athletes from 21 countries of the region took part in the competition. The youth and junior national weightlifting teams of Turkmenistan competed in the Championships. The Turkmen delegation included 24 members, namely, 16 athletes, 4 coaches, and 2 referees, the team leader and a special representative.
It should be noted that the Turkmen athletes started the Asian Youth and Junior Championships with outstanding results. In the first days of the tournament, our compatriot Perhat Bagtyyarov competed in the junior 55-kilogramme weight class event, lifted 125 kilogrammes in clean and jerk and won a bronze medal. The talented young athlete lifted 102 kilogrammes in snatch and 227 kilogrammes in total to occupy the fifth place. Perhat is a 10th grader at the Olymp secondary sports school.
Our compatriot Gulalek Kakamyradova took part in the junior 59-kilogramme weight class event and achieved great success. Gulalek lifted 77 kilogrammes in snatch. This result brought her to the fourth place in this weight class event. Gulalek lifted 93 kilogrammes in clean and jerk and took the third place. The talented Turkmen athlete lifted 170 kilograms in total and won a bronze medal of the Asian Championships in the junior women’s event. Gulalek studies at the secondary school 35 specializing in foreign languages in Sakarchage Etrap, Mary Velayat.
The welcome news about impressive victories came almost every day. The performance of our compatriot Medine Amanova, who competed in the junior 64-kilogramme weight class event, was among the best results at the Championships. Medina won gold medals in snatch (85 kg), clean and jerk (104 kg) and total (189 kg). It should be noted that she took part in the youth events at the same time. Medina's results brought her two bronze medals in the youth events. She won the bronze medals in snatch and in total. The talented Turkmen athlete prepared for the Championships under the leadership of her father and coach Gurbandurdy Amanov. Medina is a 10th grader at the Ashgabat secondary school 104.
Saparly Muhyev, an athlete from the sports school 6 of the Ashgabat Main Department on Sports and Youth Policy, took part in the youth 89-kilogramme weight class event and won gold medals on July 22. He lifted 135 kilogrammes in snatch, 165 kilogrammes in clean and jerk and won gold medals in two events. Our compatriot lifted 300 kilogrammes in total to win another gold medal. Thus, the talented Turkmen athlete became the champion of Asia.
Surajbek Sapaev, an 11th-grader at the secondary school 2 in Gurbansoltan eje Etrap, Dashoguz Velayat, competed in the junior 96-kilogramme weight class event. Surajbek lifted 135 kilogrammes in snatch (a bronze medal), 159 kilogrammes in clean and jerk, and 294 kilogrammes in total to win two silver medals.
Anamjan Rustamova, a 10th-grader at the Olymp secondary sports school, took part in the junior 81-kilogramme weight class event. She lifted 88 kilogrammes in snatch, 113 kilogrammes in clean and jerk, and 201 kilogrammes in total, and won three silver medals for the national team of Turkmenistan. Her results brought medals in the youth 81-kilogramme weight class event. Anamjan’s performance in snatch (88 kg) brought her a bronze medal, while her performance in clean and jerk (113 kg) brought her a silver medal. The result of the athlete in total (201 kg) was enough to win a silver medal in the youth event. Thus, Anamjan won three silver medals in the junior events, two silver medals and a bronze medal in the youth events.
The junior and youth national teams of Turkmenistan won 20 medals at the Asian Championships, namely, six gold medals, seven silver medals and seven bronze medals.
