The representatives of embassies and international organizations, as well as their family members, took part in the chess tournament, which was held at the Specialized Chess and Checkers School of the Ashgabat Main Department on Sports and Youth Policy on July 15–16. The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Embassy of India in our country, and the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan.
The captivating tournament has a special meaning on the eve of the 44th Chess Olympiad and FIDE Congress, which will be held in Chennai, India, from July 28 to August 10. This fact was emphasized in the speeches made at the opening ceremony of the event. First, Dr.Vidhu Peethambaran Nair, Ambassador of India to Turkmenistan, made his welcoming speech. Later on, the ceremony participants listened to the representatives of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan. The online presentations were also the focus of the opening ceremony.
After the presentation of the official uniform for the members of the national chess team of Turkmenistan, which will be used at the 44th World Chess Olympiad, the tournament started. The event was attended by diplomats and representatives of international organizations, as well as the sponsors. The absolute champion of the tournament, the winners of the women's, girls', boys' and team events were awarded at the closing ceremony.
