Turkmenistan will develop a program for training athletes for the XXXIII Summer Olympic and XVII Paralympic Games, which will be held in 2024 in Paris (French Republic). At the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held on Friday, Deputy Prime Minister S. Toylyev, who is in charge of the sports sector, addressed the head of state with such a proposal.
It was noted that thanks to the support of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, large-scale work is being carried out in our country to massively involve the population in a healthy lifestyle, support, popularize and develop sports at the state level, and bring it to the world level. In this regard, great importance is attached to the training of high-class athletes - true patriots of the Motherland.
In a short historical period, Turkmenistan has become a center for hosting major competitions of the world and continental level.
Thanks to the initiatives of the leader of the nation through sport, which strengthens peace and friendship on the planet, active cooperation has been established with leading international sports organizations, in particular with the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia.
In this regard, it is planned to draw up a program for the preparation of the national team for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris on an integrated basis and an action plan for its implementation.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the necessary conditions are being created in Turkmenistan for the training of domestic athletes and the steady improvement of their skills to achieve high results.
Having listened to the report, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed the need for serious preparation for the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, which embody the holiday of sports for peace and prosperity.
In this regard, the importance of work on the development of sports in the country was noted, which acts as an ambassador for peace and an important component of international cooperation.
This is the goal of the Program for the Support and Development of Physical Culture and Sports in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025, approved in January last year, the key focus of which is the training of high-class athletes, professional trainers and other specialized specialists.
The triumphant performances of young talented athletes, who are worthily representing Turkmenistan at the largest competitions of the planet and making a worthy contribution to strengthening its sports image on the world stage, are a clear confirmation of the success of the reforms being carried out in the system of national sports.
Recall that at the last year's Olympic Games in Tokyo, a student of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports Polina Guryeva won the first Olympic medal in the history of independent Turkmenistan. The silver medal was awarded to the 21-year-old pupil of the Honored Coach of Turkmenistan Artur Emiryan in the weightlifting competition in the weight category up to 59 kg, in which representatives of 14 countries competed.
Having approved the proposals presented at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that our athletes will continue to worthily defend the sports honor of the Fatherland, affirming the high ideals of Olympism with their skill.
