The Russian sports Ministry has approved the logo and mascot of the first ever CIS Games in Kazan. This is reported by the press service of the Department.
The organizing Committee chose a Firebird as its logo and a leopard as its mascot. The author of the logo layout was Albina Safiullina from Tatarstan. The mascot was drawn by Ibragim Durdiev from Moscow.
The first ever CIS Games will be held from 20 to 27 August 2020 in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan. Kazan is one of the most developed cities in Russia in terms of sports, as well as one of the leaders in the number of victories in various sports. The idea of hosting the CIS Games was put forward by the Russian Federation. The proposal was supported at the meeting of the Council of CIS heads of state in Dushanbe on September 28, 2018.
The competition will be held at 15 sites in Kazan. The sports part of the tournament will be hosted by the aquatics Palace, the «Ak Bars» martial arts Palace, the beach sports Center, the «Miras» USC, the Boxing and table tennis Center, the «Kazan Expo» IEC, the sports Palace and the Central stadium, and other sports facilities. The opening and closing ceremonies will be held at «Basket-hall» on August 20 and 27. Participants of the Games will be accommodated in the athletes ' Village.
It is planned to play about 280 sets of medals in 21 sports. The competition program includes such sports as arm wrestling, badminton, 3×3 basketball, Boxing, belt wrestling, water Polo, beach volleyball, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, kettlebell lifting, judo, karate, Mas-wrestling, table tennis, swimming, Sambo, Thai Boxing, dance sports, fencing, Futsal, artistic gymnastics and chess.
About 3,500 athletes aged 14 to 23 from 11 CIS countries are expected to take part in the Games. It is planned that the teams of Turkmenistan, Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine will perform at the Games. The organizing Committee may invite other countries to participate.
