On April 29, the II checkers tournament among journalists was held at the specialized chess and checkers school of the Ashgabat Main Department of Sport and Youth Policy. It was organised by the Ministry of Sport and Youth Policy of Turkmenistan, Turkmenistan Sport International Magazine and Ata Watan International Magazine.

The media representatives, who hold various positions, took part in the tournament.

According to the results, a sports observer of Turkmen Sporty Newspaper Bekdurdy Atabaev took the first place in the men’s checkers tournament. A sports observer of Turkmenistan Sport International Magazine Merdan Bayad took the second place and a renowned journalist Aydogdy Akmamedov took the third place.

A fierce competition in the Swiss-system tournament continued till the last moment. The third-place winner in the I tournament Eziz Geldymuradov (Ahal Durmusy Newspaper), a debutant Kakajan Pirjanov (Turkmen Dili Newspaper) and Vepa Bayramov (Nebit-Gaz Newspaper) competed for prizes till the end of the tournament.

Aygul Gurbansahedova from Yaslyk radio channel took the first place in the women’s tournament. The winner in the last year’s tournament Ziba Suhanova (Miras radio channel) took the second place. A student from the International University of Humanities and Development Mergen Atagarryeva took the third place.

Valuable gifts and diplomas were awarded to the winners on behalf of the Ministry of Sport and Youth Policy of Turkmenistan and the sponsor of the tournament the Makul Hyzmat translation centre.
