The principles of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan not only determine the key areas of foreign policy, but also contribute to the effectiveness of global efforts in maintaining political stability and promoting good neighbourly relations, friendship and cooperation on an international scale, including relations in sport sector. Using the platform of the UN General Assembly, neutral Turkmenistan comes up with progressive initiatives that contribute to sustainable development globally.
An example of such initiatives was a mutually beneficial and lively dialogue between the representatives of the UN Office accredited in Turkmenistan and the officials of the Ministry of Sport and Youth Policy of Turkmenistan during a roundtable meeting, which took place on December 18, 2019.
The Turkmen side was represented by the officials of the sport ministry of Turkmenistan headed by Minister D. Gulgeldyev, specialists of the velayat main departments of sport and youth policy from all over the country and representatives of the public organisations. UN Resident Coordinator E. Panova represented the UNDP Office.

The meeting participants considered the issues related to the implementation of mutually beneficial joint activities of the UNDP Office in Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Sport and Youth Policy of Turkmenistan. In particular, much attention was paid to the youth situation analysis, youth employment, gender equality issues, women’s employment, assistance to people with disabilities and their employment, etc. The joint actions in 2020 on the preparation of a new national programme for 2021-2025 were discussed.
