Turkmen tennis players have advanced to the quarterfinals of the ongoing 2026 Davis Cup Juniors U16 Asia/Oceania Pre Qualifying in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The team secured this achievement ahead of schedule by winning their second consecutive match, The Golden age electronic newspaper reports.
In the first round of Group B, the Turkmenistan team, seeded sixth in the tournament, confidently defeated Oman 3-0, and in the second round earned a hard-fought victory over Myanmar, 2-1, The Golden age electronic newspaper reports.
The match proved challenging for our players. In the first singles match, which lasted 1 hour and 44 minutes, Suleyman Hudayberdiyev lost to Phee Sar Sei in a tiebreak, 3-6, 6-7 (5). In the second match, Aly Geldiyev leveled the score at 1-1, defeating Dah Woo in 1 hour and 10 minutes, 6-4, 6-1.
The outcome of the match was decided in the doubles, which lasted 1 hour and 24 minutes. In the first set, Aly Geldiyev and Kerimgeldi Guldurdyyev lost to Phee Sar Sei and Dah Woo, 4-6. In the second set, they took revenge, 6-3, and in the third, decisive set, they secured victory in a super tiebreak, 10-7.
In another match of the second day in this group, the second-seeded team of Singapore defeated Oman 3-0 and secured an early place in the quarterfinals.
In the final round, the junior teams of Turkmenistan and Singapore will face each other to determine which team advances to the playoffs from first place and which from second.
A total of 15 teams are participating in the DCJ Asia/Oceania Pre-Qualifying Event, organized under the auspices of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in cooperation with the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF). In the first stage, the teams are divided into four groups.
Results of the second round in other groups: Group A: Sri Lanka – Saudi Arabia 3-0; Group C: Malaysia – Laos 2-1, Guam – Philippines 0-3; Group D: Vietnam – Mongolia 3-0, Nepal – Pacific Oceania 0-3.
Following these matches, it became known that, along with Turkmenistan and Singapore, the following teams also advanced early to the quarterfinals: Sri Lanka (No. 1 seed), Malaysia (No. 4 seed), the Philippines (No. 5 seed), Vietnam (No. 3 seed) and Pacific Oceania (No. 7 seed).
