A record number of participants — 210 athletes (98 boys and 102 girls) from the Ahal, Dashoguz, Lebap and Mary regions, as well as from Ashgabat — took part in the recently concluded Turkmenistan Tennis Championship held at the courts of the multifunctional Ashgabat stadium, The Golden age electronic newspaper reports.
Winners were determined in three age categories: U12, U14 and U18.
In the girls’ competition, 12-year-old Nazli Hudaygulyyeva, a 7th-grade student of Ashgabat Secondary School No. 87, climbed to the top of the podium twice — winning in both the under-12 and under-14 categories. In both finals, she defeated Sakhra Garakhanova, a fellow 7th-grade student from Ashgabat Secondary School No. 90, who earned two silver medals.
Bronze medalists were: Safiya Tribunskaya in the youngest age group and Anna Ponyatova in the under-14 category.
Among the boys, 12-year-old Yunus Annamyradov, a 7th-grade student from Secondary School No. 18 in Mary, stood on the podium three times. He won gold in the youngest age group, defeating Erkin Altyev in the final, and earned silver in the under-14 category, losing in the final to Kerimgeldi Guldurdyyev, a 9th-grade student at the Joint Turkmen-Russian Secondary School named after A.S. Pushkin.
Bronze medals were awarded to Demid Ugryumov (U12) and Nazar Amangeldiyev (U14).
Yunus Annamyradov earned his third medal of the championship and his second silver in the doubles category, playing alongside Serdar Komekov. The winners in this category were Nazar Amangeldiyev from Ashgabat and Nazim Kasymov from Mary.
In the girls’ doubles competition, the top honors went to Aynur Annamyradova, a 10th-grade student from Secondary School No. 18 in Mary, and Jennet Charyyeva, an 11th-grade student from Ashgabat Secondary School No. 19. They defeated the Ashgabat duo of Ilima Guseynova and Leyli Esenova in the final.
In the girls’ singles under-18 category, Ilima Guseynova, a 10th-grade student at Ashgabat Specialized Secondary School No. 42, claimed victory by defeating Aynur Movlyamova in the final. Leyli Esenova took third place.
In the boys’ under-18 category, Selim Chagylov, an 11th-grade student from Ashgabat Secondary School No. 18, won the title for the second year in a row, defeating Nazim Kasymov in the final, who received the silver medal. Kerimgeldi Guldurdyyev took bronze.
Based on the results of the Turkmenistan Championship, the national junior teams in the under-12, under-14, and under-18 age categories will be formed to represent the country in international competitions.
