The Ashgabat 2025 International Chess Tournament organized in the Turkmen capital, became a true celebration for young athletes. This was stated by Alexander Shkurikhin, the head of the Russian Federation delegation, the leader of the A-Gambit chess club of the Leningrad region, The Turkmenistan: Golden age electronic newspaper reports.
"The Ashgabat tournament became a true celebration for young chess players. Its excellent organization, intense matches, and unforgettable atmosphere of friendship and fair play – this is exactly how an international tournament should be," said Alexander Shkurikhin.
he handed over a letter of gratitude from his Russian colleagues to the organizers for holding the first international tournament in Ashgabat among boys and girls under 8, 10, and 12 years old. The letter states that holding such competitions contributes to strengthening the friendly ties between the peoples of Turkmenistan and Russia.
"We hope that this wonderful idea will become a tradition," reads the letter, signed by Y.Maslyakov, the member of the Supervisory Board of the Russian Chess Federation and President of the Regional Sports Chess Federation of the Leningrad region.
Recall that the Ashgabat 2025 International Chess Tournament gathered 129 participants from 11 countries, who competed over three days for 12 sets of medals in three age categories in rapid and blitz competitions. The venue was the Specialized Chess and Checkers School of Ashgabat, built on the initiative of Hero Arkadag and designed to accommodate 500 playing seats.
