A seminar on training tennis coaches for the disabled people was held in Ashgabat

12 specialists from the National Tennis Federation have completed training as part of an online seminar on training coaches for people with disabilities. It was organized with the support of the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sports by the Tennis Federation of Turkmenistan (TTF) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the Turkmenistan: Golden age electronic newspaper reports.

Remind that on the 29th of March, 2025, in the city of Arkadag, the TTF and UNICEF signed a Memorandum of Partnership and launched the first Wheelchair Tennis program in our country, providing children with disabilities with the opportunity to play sports.

As part of this program, children with disabilities aged 7 to 18 will have the opportunity to use specialised sports wheelchairs, coaching support and individual lessons in accordance with international standards.

An important stage in its implementation was an online seminar, which was attended by national coaches of the Turkmenistan Tennis Federation, physiotherapists, methodologists and managers. The venue was the Tennis Complex of the Ashgabat Olympic Village, which, by decision of the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF), became the Training Centre of the Asian Region in 2024.

Under the guidance of an experienced international wheelchair tennis instructor of the Asian and Kazakh Tennis Federations Sergey Selivanov, the participants of the seminar got acquainted with the international experience of sports training with the disabled people, including the relevant terminology, methodology, use of sports wheelchairs and other equipment, organisation and duration of the training process, correct distribution of loads, conditions for the selection of athletes, etc.

As part of the seminar, practical classes on the court were also organised. Upon its completion, all participants were awarded certificates from UNICEF and the Tennis Federation of Turkmenistan.
