The Turkmenistan Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship was held at the Specialized Chess and Draughts School of the Main Directorate of Physical Culture and Sports of Ashgabat with more than 100 players under the age of 20 participating.
In the rapid format, each player is allocated 15 minutes for the whole game with an addition of 10 seconds per turn, and in the blitz (lightning chess) each player has 3 minutes to play, and the addition per turn is only 2 seconds.
In the men’s rapid tournament won the student of Turkmen state architectural and construction institute Vepaly Halyniyazov, who before that won gold in «classic». In the blitz with a 100% result, the 2016 world champion among boys under 8 years old, candidate for FIDE master Shageldi Gurbandurdyev, who also won the bronze medal in the rapid tournament. Two bronze and one silver in various disciplines won the student of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport Amammuhammet Hommadov.
Sisters 19-year-old Lala and 18-year-old Leyla Shohradov continued their winning streak among the girls. Lala, who had previously won the classical chess championship, went on to claim victory in the rapid format, while Leyla triumphed in the blitz category. Other younger native of the Lebab region – 15-year-old Jahan Redjepova and Myahri Agamuradova won silver and bronze in rapid and blitz.
The winners were awarded medals and commemorative gifts.
