Two Turkmen crews climbed the podium of the 14th international 2024 Silk Way Rally, which took place on the territory of Russia and Mongolia. The race started in Tomsk and finished in Ulaanbaatar. The international rally took place on the difficult roads of the Altai Mountains and the Gobi Desert. Each day of the rally was full of interesting moments and surprises.
Turkmen racers competed in the off-road class T2, in which prizes were contested by 6 crews. Three of them represented the Automobile Sports Federation of Turkmenistan. The silver medalists were brothers Merdan and Shohrat Toylyev, who competed in a Nissan Patrol of the Turkmenavtoulaglary agency. Another Turkmen crew, pilot Maksatmyrat Danatarov and navigator Didar Orazmedov, rounded out the top three in a Nissan Patrol. Another crew from Turkmenistan, consisting of Meilis Abdullayev and Italmaz Charyev, made it into the top five. The winners in this discipline were Russian racing drivers Andrey Sushentsov and Alexander Shchanov.
It is worth noting that teams from Turkmenistan took leading positions in several stages of the race as part of the Russian championship. This shows that Turkmen rally drivers are gaining more and more experience and are becoming the strongest competitors in the international arena.
The Silk Way Rally project dates back to 2009. Then the route of the first rally started in Kazan, passed through Kazakhstan and finished in Ashgabat.
