Turkmen weightlifters won 13 medals – 11 silver and 2 bronze – at the Central Asian Open Championship among boys and girls under 17 years old in Chirchik (Uzbekistan).

44 athletes from six countries took part in the competition: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

Three silver medals each in the snatch, clean and jerk and total weight were won by Atabek Azamatov (49 kg) – 159 kg (73 + 86), Kakamyrat Annamyradov (67 kg) – 246 kg (113 + 133) and Orazgul Babaniyazova (55 kg) – 145 kg (64 +81).

Gurbangozel Orazova (over 71 kg) also brought three medals to the Turkmenistan team. She won bronze in the snatch (55 kg) and two silvers in the clean and jerk (78 kg) and the total weight (133 kg).

Another bronze medal in the snatch (120 kg) was won by Saparbai Atajanov, who competed in the weight category over 81 kg.
