On March 22, a traditional annual tournament – the Sambo Founders Cup – started at the International Sambo Centre in Moscow.

The strongest athletes from Turkmenistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, Germany, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, the Republic of Korea, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and the hosts of the tournament, the Russian Federation, took part in the Cup.

On the first day of the tournament, the Turkmen wrestlers won four medals, namely, one gold, two silver and one bronze medals, in the sports sambo events.

Jemal Avlyakulyeva had no equal in the 65-kilogramme weight class event. Nyyazmyrat Babekov (64 kg) and Nedir Allaberdiyev (79 kg) won silver medals for the national team of Turkmenistan. Saodat Ishmuradova entered the top three in the 80-kilogramme weight class event.
