The Turkmen capital has recently hosted the U14, 16 & 18 Chess Championships of Turkmenistan. Participants competed for 6 sets of medals. Over 200 chess players took part in the tournament.
Gulmira Seyilhanova scored 9 points out of 9 in the U16 girls' event. Mahri Aymakova took the second place. Jennet Yalkanova (Mary Velayat) took the third place on the podium.
The athletes of Lebap Velayat succeeded in the U14 girls' event. Jahan Rejepova scored 8.5 points and triumphed in this event. Mahri Agamyradova was only half a point inferior to the winner and took the second place on the podium. Nurhan Babanazarova, who won a bronze medal at the U12 event last week, entered the top three.
A 17-year-old Leyla Shohradova scored 7.5 points to become the champion in the U18 girls' event. Bagul Ezizova took the second place. She was only half a point inferior to the winner. A FIDE master Lala Shohradova and a candidate master of sports Meryem Agajanova scored 6.5 points each. Lala won the third place according to additional indicators.
Serdar Bayramov had no equal in the U16 boys' event. Resul Begmyradov took the second place. Ilhan Charyev entered the top three.
Amanmuhammet Hommadov and Ahmet Gubatayev, the students of the Specialized Chess and Checkers School of the Ashgabat Main Department on Physical Culture and Sports, took the first and second places in the U18 boys' event. Bayram Bayramov won a bronze medal.
Alihan Batyrov (Mary) scored 8 points and took the first place in the U14 boys' event. Ali Ahmedov (Ashgabat) became the runner-up, and Rauf Yusupov (Mary) entered the top three.
The players of Lebap Velayat triumphed in the team event, winning 9 medals (4 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals). It should be noted that the athletes of Ashgabat earned 4 medals (1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals), and the team of Ahal Velayat won 1 bronze medal.
