The Turkmen wrestlers performed successfully at the World Belt Wrestling Championship held in Astana, Kazakhstan. 16 athletes represented the national team of Turkmenistan. About 200 athletes from 12 countries took part in the tournament.
The Turkmen athletes won 11 medals (4 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals) at the Championship.
The women's national team of Turkmenistan demonstrated impressive results in the freestyle belt wrestling events. Zarina Abdyrahmanova entered the top three in the 58-kilogramme weight class event. Jemal Owlyakulyeva won a silver medal in the 66-kilogramme weight class event.
The men's national team of Turkmenistan performed well in the freestyle belt wrestling events. In the 57-kilogramme weight class event, Hojamyrat Suvhanov defeated the athletes from the Russian Federation and the Kyrgyz Republic and earned the opportunity to compete in the final. Our compatriot beat the athlete from Kazakhstan in the final and became the world champion. Atageldi Tejendurdyev competed in the 68-kilogramme weight class event. He defeated the athletes from Kazakhstan and Tajikistan and reached the final, where won the Uzbek wrestler. Thus, the Turkmen athlete brought another gold medal to the national team of Turkmenistan. Agayusup Garaev achieved brilliant success in the 75-kilogramme weight class event. Having defeated the athletes from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation, the Turkmen wrestler beat his opponent representing Kazakhstan in the final and became the world champion. Rozymyrat Medov demonstrated his skills in the 82-kilogramme weight class event. First, the Turkmen wrestler defeated the athletes from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. In the final, our compatriot beat the Kyrgyz master of belt wrestling and won another gold medal for the national team of Turkmenistan. Arslan Hojamberdiyev reached the final in the 90-kilogramme weight class event. Our athlete defeated the Tajik, Russian and Kazakh wrestlers on the way to the final, where he lost to the Kyrgyz contender and became the vice-champion of the world. Nobatgeldi Nazarov won a bronze medal in the 100-kilogramme weight class event.
The Turkmen athletes earned medals in the classic belt wrestling events. Guvanch Hemraev won a bronze medal in 68-kilogramme weight class event. Annagurban Allaberdiyev became the vice-champion of the world in the 90-kilogramme weight class event. Nurmuhammet Baydogdyev also earned a silver medal in the +100-kilogramme weight class event. Nurmuhammet won all the opponents on the way to the final.
The national team of Turkmenistan entered the top three in the medal standing at the World Championship.
