A swimming tournament

The Open Swimming Championships of the Sports School of the State Committee on Physical Culture and Sports of Turkmenistan has been organized at the Olympiya Water Sports Complex in Turkmenbashi. The tournament consisted of four events in swimming, which is included in the programme of the Olympic Games. The competition of the athletes born in 2011-2012 created an unforgettable impression on the sports fans who gathered at the Sports Complex. The swimmers of the abovementioned Sports School and the School of the Ashgabat Main Department on Physical Culture and Sports took part in the tournament.

Kseniya Klimushina won the 50-metre freestyle event. Coached by Mark Pilyugin, the talented girl covered the distance in 36.4 seconds. Aygul Atashova took the second place with a result of 55.51, and Veronika Nirenskaya (both coached by Sergey Gnatyuk) entered the top three with a time of 56.22. Danil Epilman had no equals at the same distance in the boys' freestyle swimming event. Coached by Sergey Gnatyuk, the athlete achieved a result of 38.63. Emir Gambarov took the second place (coached by Rustam Esenov) with a time of 39.15, while Zahar Gnatyuk (coached by Sergey Gnatyuk) covered the distance in 39.3 seconds and won the third place.

The 100-metre freestyle event was held only among boys. Danil Epilman won the victory in this event with a time of 1:28.16.

Kseniya Klimushina had no equals in the 50-metre backstroke event – 40.51 seconds. Artyom Savchuk (coached by Mark Pilyugin) won the similar boy’s event. The 100-metre backstroke event was held only among boys, and Emir Kulniyazov (coached by Mark Pilyugin) demonstrated the best result – 1:51.15 seconds.

The breaststroke events were also very close. Kseniya Klimushina (52.69 seconds) was the first to swim the 50-metre distance. Zahar Gnatyuk (47.34 seconds) won the similar boy’s event. Zahar also triumphed in the 100-metre breaststroke event.

The most talented athletes competed in the butterfly events. Danil Epilman had no equals at the 50-metre distance with a time of 53.17. Ibragim Gambarov (coached by Mark Pilyugin) won the 100-metre event with a result of 2:30.23.

This tournament demonstrated that new generation of young people is ready to make a worthy contribution to the development of national swimming school.
