Turkmen weightlifter wins bronze in clean and jerk at the Junior World Championships in Greece

The bronze medal in clean and jerk was won by Turkmen weightlifter Atajan Dayiev at the Junior World Championships that ended in Heraklion (Greece). This success was achieved by a 2nd year student of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports in the super heavy weight category over 109 kg, in which 8 athletes competed for awards.

In the snatch A.Daiev showed the fourth result (162 kg), in the clean and jerk - the third (208 kg). As a result, our compatriot took 4th place in the combined event (370 kg), 4 kg behind the bronze medalist Bogdan Taranenko (Ukraine) - 374 kg (167 + 207). Silver went to Mirkhosil Mirzaboev (Uzbekistan) - 388 kg (176 + 212). Alireza Yousefi (Iran) won gold - 416 kg (177 + 239).

Atajan Dayiev began to go in for weightlifting in Sakarchaga etrap with coach Shatlyk Durdyklychev. Currently, he is improving his sportsmanship under the guidance of the head coach of the men's national team of Turkmenistan Mansur Redjepov.

Earlier, Atajan Dayiev, who will turn 20 on May 20, achieved silver success at the 2019 Youth World Championships in Las Vegas (USA) and bronze at the 2019 Asian Youth Championships in Pyongyang (DPRK) in the weight category over 102 kg. At the current junior world championship, he set a personal record in the combined event (370 kg), improving by 35 kg the previous achievement set at last year's junior world championship in Tashkent.

Turkmen weightlifters have several important competitions ahead of them this year: in June, Mexico will host the World Youth Championship, in July, Tashkent (Uzbekistan) will host the Asian Championship among youths and juniors, in August, the city of Konya (Turkey) is scheduled to host the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games, and in December in Colombia - the world championship among men and women.
