The first ever Sports Games of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will be held in Kazan in 2020.
The tournaments will take place from 20 to 27 August 2020 in Kazan. They will be attended by athletes from all over the Commonwealth of Independent States, including Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine. The organizing committee may invite other countries to participate. More than 2,000 athletes and 600 officials are expected to visit Kazan.
Athletes will compete in various sports, including judo, sambo, beach volleyball, beach handball, futsal, boxing, Thai boxing, chess, dance sport, fencing, karate, weightlifting, arm wrestling, mas-wrestling (tug-of-stick), wrestling, belt wrestling (koresh), track and field athletics and basketball. The forum “CIS – the Territory of Sports” will be held in the framework of the sporting event.
It should be noted that Kazan is a happy city for Turkmen athletes. The 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan was particularly abundant in victories. Given the fact that the athletes from Turkmenistan made their debut at the Universiade, the tournaments in Kazan six years ago can be considered super successful. The Turkmen wrestlers showed the most outstanding results; they won medals of all virtues in the belt wrestling and sambo tournaments.
