Turkmen hockey players beat the Taiwanese team at the 2022 World Cup in Luxembourg
Hockey players of the national team of Turkmenistan beat the team of Taiwan - 4:2 at the world championship held in Luxembourg and retained their place in the strongest group "A" of the third division of the world championship.
Both teams had an unsuccessful start in the tournament, which takes place on the ice arena of the city of Kokelshöhe with the participation of five teams. In the first two matches, the Taiwanese lost heavily to their rivals from the United Arab Emirates - 2:10 and Turkey - 2:6. As a result, before the third round, they closed the standings with 0 points.
In the first meeting, the Turkmen team with a score of 4:10 (2:4, 1:4, 1:2) lost to the UAE team, reinforced at the 2022 World Cup by legionnaires from the CIS countries playing in the hockey championship of this country and led by Canadian coach David Rich. And in the second - they earned a point due to the fact that they lost to the Luxembourg team only in overtime - 4:5 (2:2, 1:2, 1:0. OT: 0:1). Therefore, the upcoming match for both rivals in the fight for the right to remain in the strongest group of the third division of the World Cup was of paramount importance.
Three years ago, at the World Championships in Sofia (Bulgaria), the national teams of Turkmenistan and Taiwan met each other. And then the Taiwanese won in overtime with a score of 5:4.
The second head-to-head match of the opponents at the 2022 World Cup in Luxembourg started unsuccessfully for our team, which was losing 0-2 after the first period. However, in the second 20-minute period, the Turkmen hockey players turned the tide of the meeting, scoring three goals against the Taiwan national team thanks to accurate shots by Begench Dovletmyradov, Arslan Amanov and Pavel Barkovskiy. The winning point in the final period was put by Alexander Vakhovskiy.
Thereby, having won a strong-willed victory with a score of 4:2, Bayram Allayarov's wards secured themselves from relegation to Group “B”.
Before the last round, the national team of Turkmenistan takes the third place with 4 points, ahead of the teams of Luxembourg (2 points) and Taiwan (0 points). Turkish hockey players are in the second position with 6 points.
As for the UAE team, having scored two more victories over the teams of Turkey - 13:4 and Luxembourg - 8:1, with 12 points ahead of schedule took first place and won the right to play in group "B" of the second division of the World Cup next year.
The 2022 World Cup in Group “A” of the third division will end with the matches Turkey - Turkmenistan and Luxembourg - Taiwan, following which the silver and bronze medalists of the tournament will be determined.
