A solemn celebration in honour of the Olympic athletes from Turkmenistan took place at the Martial Arts Centre in the Ashgabat Olympic Town. At the beginning of the celebration, the audience listened to the congratulations of the President of Turkmenistan.
Weightlifter Polina Guryeva won a silver medal in the under 59 kg category at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games – the first Olympic medal in the history of independent Turkmenistan. The athlete dedicated her award to the 30th anniversary of independence of Turkmenistan.
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Serdar Gurbangulyevich Berdimuhamedov congratulated the Olympic medallist on her great victory and awarded Polina Guryeva with an elite apartment, car («Lexus LX570 Sport Plus) and prize money on behalf of the President, Arkadag. She also received the title of Honoured Master of Sports of Turkmenistan.
The athlete sincerely thanked the leader of the nation for highly evaluating her performance at the Games and assured that she would do everything possible so that Turkmen sports would gain more victories in international arenas.
The coaches of the Turkmenistan national weightlifting team Artur Emiryan (Toyota Camry car) and Akhmet Saryev (the order of «Garaşsyz Türkmenistana bolan beýik söýgüsi üçin») received the awards at this solemn ceremony.
The Turkmenistan national team consisting of 9 athletes competed in four sports – weightlifting, judo, swimming and athletics (hammer throw) at the Tokyo Summer Olympic Games, and a referee from Turkmenistan judged the weightlifting competitions. Five of the athletes are the weightlifters.
The participants adopted an Address to the President of Turkmenistan at the end of the solemn event.
